A quiet valley surrounded by trees in morning mist

London · Funeral directors

Let us take the next steps with you, gently.

If someone close to you has died, it is natural not to know what to do. Our line is answered day and night; we explain the first hours in order and help with the paperwork.

Where did the death happen? We will show the first steps in order for your situation.

Our line

The same calm voice by day and by night.

When you call, you reach a member of our team, not a switchboard. We listen without hurrying you and agree the next step together.

IFirst steps

What do I do now?

The first hours differ depending on where the death happened. These steps are general guidance for England and Wales; we go through the details with you on the phone.

  1. Call a doctor

If the death was expected, call the GP, or NHS 111 out of hours. If it was sudden, call 999.

  2. The medical certificate

A doctor confirms the death. Where the cause is clear a medical certificate follows; otherwise the coroner may be involved.

  3. Call us

We agree a time to come and the steps that follow. There is no need to rush.

  4. Register the death

Register at the local register office, usually within five days. We explain what to bring.

This is general guidance, not legal advice. Practice can differ between areas and hospitals; please ask us about any step you are unsure of.

VIIQuestions

Questions families ask us

Who answers if I call at night?

A member of our team on call. At night we listen just as calmly and plan the first step with you.

Where can I find your prices?

Our Standardised Price List is linked at the top of every page and in the prices section. We explain any additional options in writing.

How do we bring someone home from abroad?

Start with the local authorities and the British embassy or consulate. We then arrange the airline and the collection with you.

Do you sell funeral plans?

No. Prepaid funeral plans are regulated by the FCA; if you ask, we point you to authorised providers and explain what to look for.

We follow a different tradition. Can you help?

Please tell us about it. We will say plainly what we can offer and help you reach the right community or officiant.
